Velgron Devlog #1 – Building the World Begins

Welcome to the very first devlog for Velgron! 🎉
Over the past weeks, I’ve been laying down the foundations of the world – from lumberyards and villages to walled cities. In this post I’ll give you a quick tour of what has been created so far, including a detailed changelog of my daily progress.
🌲 The Lumberyard
The first area built for Velgron was a simple lumberyard, surrounded by fences and filled with sawed logs, a work shed, and NPC props like wheelbarrows and tool storage. This area sets the tone for the skilling aspect of the game (woodcutting, crafting) and will connect into the larger economy of Velgron.
🏔 Expanding Into Mining Zones
Next, I started building an area focused on mining and resource gathering. Large rock formations now stand tall on the edge of the village, creating a transition into future mining dungeons where players will be able to extract ores and craft new items.
🏘 The First Village
I then moved on to create a village layout with paths, trees, and fenced plots. This gave Velgron its first feeling of a living world, where NPCs will have daily routines such as farming, cutting wood, or trading goods.
🏰 The Walled City
To expand further, I designed a walled medieval-style city with multiple houses, a central gate, and market stalls. This city will eventually serve as a hub for quests, trading, and interacting with NPCs that have unique lifestyles.
💰 Shops & the Bank
Inside the city, I added several key buildings such as a bank and a saloon-style shop. These buildings are part of Velgron’s economy system – a place where players will be able to store items, trade, and prepare for dungeons.
🎨 Stylized Look
All assets so far follow a low-poly stylized design with warm earth tones, wooden structures, and bright natural lighting. This visual identity will continue to define Velgron’s world: simple, colorful, but full of atmosphere.
📜 Changelog of Progress
Here’s a breakdown of the daily builds and what was created during each session:
-
Day 23 – Built a bookcase, trophy case, and a hunter trap. Learned how to use the random option & decimate modifier in Blender.
-
Day 24 – Added more props: a bait box, spice rack, hanging meat rack, standing meat rack, campfire with stewpot, and a blacksmithing toolrack.
-
Day 25 – Expanded the environment with pine trees, rocks, simple swords, a hunting knife, and a mushroom asset.
-
Day 26 – Continued refining props, polishing environment placement, and laying foundations for biome transitions.
🔮 What’s Next?
Continuing to grow the world biome by biome (forest, mining zone, volcanic area, and beyond).
